Wikipedia and Science: the Story Behind a Winning Tandem
ArkéoTopia

Wednesday 3rd June, 2.00pm

Is Wikipedia a reliable source? How does this encyclopaedia work? How can I become a contributor? These are the questions you can find answers to in a participatory workshop organised by the Arkéotopia Association. You don’t know Wikipedia yet: learn how to use it and contribute by getting to know the different ways of participating (grammar and spelling, translation, donating illustrations and, if you are a researcher, evaluating). You already contribute to Wikipedia: do more after learning about the other universes (Wikicommons, Wikibooks, Wikiuniversity…) and the bridges between them as you discover archaeology. If you have a tablet or a laptop, do bring it along.

Meeting researchers: the Experimentarium
INRA, Labex ARBRE

Thursday 4th June: from 9.00am onwards

The Experimentarium creates opportunities for the public and researchers to meet, as the latter present their research in 20-minute discovery workshops. The meetings are organised around the questioning, gestures and objects in researchers’ everyday life. They allow the public to realise that science is above all a human activity, made up of imagination, observations, hypotheses, reassessments and discoveries. As for the PhD students following the Experimentarium, they learn to be prepared to listen to the questions of non-specialists and to talk about their research subject. They can put into perspective the meaning of their research, their own practice of the scientific approach, and the day to day side of their work.

Conference on Expert Patients
MGEN

Friday, 5th June: 1.30pm

The Haute Autorité de Santé (the French National Authority for Health) defines Therapeutic Patient Education programmes as continuing processes which aim to help patients manage their lives with chronic illnesses (diabetes, cancer, kidney failure, cardiovascular diseases) in the best way possible, and are an integral part of patient care. Today, TPE programmes play an ever more important role in public health policies. The round table organised by the MGEN (a mutual health care organisation, originally set up for the education sector), an actor in the field of health, will bring together experts, health professionals and patients in order to try to define the perspectives and challenges in the situation of patients and their relatives and friends, to improve understanding of their health and illnesses, with the aim of improving their quality of life.

Science and Business
Lorraine Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Saturday 6th June: 10am – 12.30am

Take part in the challenge of Lorraine’s innovative businesses. Businessman-researcher tandems take the stage with 300 second to present themselves and convince the audience. A moment of exchanges and dialogue between citizens, scientists and businessmen to highlight our region’s gems of today and tomorrow.

Science Café-Théâtre
Université de Strasbourg

Saturday 6th June: 2.30pm – 4pm

Twelve students and post-graduates stage a series of sketches illustrating the scientific subjects of their choice. Their aim: to transmit current scientific knowledge to a varied and non-expert audience in an amusing and innovative way, before sharing a moment of conviviality with the audience.

Market Game
Cité de l'Économie et de la Monnaie

Saturday 6th June: 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm

This game features buyers and sellers of sheep. Each player tries to make the biggest profit possible. If at the start, participants can only exchange one sheep when it’s their turn, they will be able to invest their profits by enlarging their farms (the sellers) or their factories (the buyers) and exchange up to four sheep each turn. An entertaining and convivial approach to the notion of equilibrium price!
